Bicyclist killed on Route 199 in James City County

Last night around 10pm a man on a bicycle was struck by an SUV while they were both traveling westbound on Jamestown Road toward John Tyler Highway. The bicyclist died at the scene of the accident. The occupants of the SUV were not injured. The police found that the man on the bike, Elmer Hernandez, was trying to move toward the median when he was struck by the SUV. The police are still investigating the accident and have not given the driver of the SUV a ticket. My thoughts go out to the victim's family. Hopefully drivers and bicyclist in the future will watch the road and take all safety precautions necessary to prevent any future accidents from happening.
