A tragic swimming accident resulted in fatality for well-known and respected Lexington, Kentucky, resident Samel G. Barnes, Sr., 63, according to the
Fulton Sun. The Fifth Third Bank president was on the beach in St. Simons Island, Georgia, with his wife when he swam out to sandbar, according to police. On his way back to the shore, Barnes went under the water, and emergency crews tried to revive him after the tragic drowning. Despite the efforts of the emergency workers, Barnes was pronounced dead later that afternoon. A preliminary report listed drowning as the cause of death, but the
Fulton Sun reported that a family friend suggested the cause may have been a heart attack.
As a Virginia personal injury lawyer, Lawrence Land expresses his deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Samel G. Barnes, Sr. The unexpected loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult tragedies for anyone to bear, and our thoughts are with the family at this most difficult time. When drowning and near-drowning accidents occur, depending on the circumstances, a wrongful death or premises liability claim may be filed.
