Sailers at the Norfolk Naval Station received free
motorcycle safety training this month since more and more sailers are riding motorcycles, according to the
WTKR news source. Naval Station Norfolk knows that a shortage of parking spaces and high gas prices have led to more sailers purchasing motorcycles, and this is the fourth year the station has hosted a free motorcycle safety course in an effort to protect its sailers on the roadway. With safety as a top priority to the Navy, the course not only included tips for bike riding, but also how to look out for others on the roadway while on a motorcycle. According to WTKR, the efforts of the Norfolk Naval Station and other motorcycle safety prevention groups are working: between 2008 and 2009, fatalities from
motorcycle accidents were reduced in the Navy by 60 percent. In the state, fatalities from
Virginia motorcycle accidents have declined for the past three years.
Although the number of Hampton Roads and
Norfolk motorcycle accidents have declined,
Virginia auto accident lawyer Lawrence Land believes that one serious motorcycle crash is one too many, and he commits a significant part of his practice to helping motorcycle accident victims recover financial compensation for injuries so they can focus their efforts on getting better.
