These intersections and roadways were chosen as the most dangerous by local news reporters and police officers.
1. Interstate 64 at Northampton Boulevard, Hampton
Nearly two dozen
Virginia car crashes a year occur on this section of Interstate 64. Officials believe the accidents are the result of too much traffic on the road. Every day about 150,000 vehicles travel on I-64 near Northampton Boulevard to the connection with I-264. Eighty percent of the crashes are rear-end accidents that occur when people merge without looking.
2. Holland Road at Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach
Holland at Rosemont Road in Virginia Beach is the number one crash site in Virginia Beach. Last year, there were 62 crashes at this intersection. The road is narrow and handles a lot of traffic. Drivers get frustrated and impatient and they wait to get through the intersection.
3. Hampton Boulevard at Redgate Avenue, Norfolk
