Are there any problems returning to work after a mild brain injury?

A: As with any brain injury, the return to work is an important part of the rehabilitation process. Individuals who return to work without rehabilitation and work supports report that they experience great difficulty with the cognitive aspects of their work tasks.  In some cases, they are overwhelmed by the work’s psychological demands.

Co-workers may not understand the cognitive and personality changes that they see in the injured individual and attribute the problems to the wrong cause. To be effective, the rehabilitation program needs to extend into the work setting to include vocational assessments, work reentry, job coaching and job reengineering. In some cases, the person may need to return to a modified job.  (Note: Reference podcasts here)
