The Virginia State House Bill 1981 was passed in January by both houses and signed by Governor Bob McDonnell. The bill will allow motorcyclist, moped riders, and bicyclists on July 1, 2011 to pass through a red light after pausing for 120 seconds. This law was passed to help vehicles that do not weigh enough to trip the senor for the light to change to have an option to proceed into oncoming traffic when it is safe. The liability would still fall on the vehicle at the stop light. The bill is designed to give 2 wheel motor vehicles a safe legal option to proceed into traffic.
