Ashburn, Virginia | Truck Crash

A car crash on U.S. 15 took an Ashburn woman’s life about 6:20 a.m. on Aug. 31.
Virginia State Trooper C.V. Cooper was helping a portable scales crew weigh a truck on U.S. 15 when he was notified by a motorist that a pick-up truck was driving erratically nearby on the same road. Cooper arrived just south of Route 612, Tail Race Road, when he saw a gray 2008 Chevrolet pick-up truck cross over the southbound lane of U.S. 15 and hit a 2004 Ford van and then hit a 1997 Nissan pick-up truck head-on.

According to authorities, the crash happened in the southbound lane and shoulder of U.S. 15.
The driver of the Chevrolet truck, Carol R. Wooten, 53, died at the scene and was not wearing a seatbelt, authorities said.

Artuto Pineda, 43 of Brunswick, Md., the driver of the Nissan truck, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Ford van was not injured, and according to police, both drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Cooper and the Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team.
