Boydton, Virginia Woman Dies as a Result of Two-Car Crash

Virginia State Police Trooper T.A. Clary said the victim, Virginia Norene Proffitt, was a passenger in a Cadillac driven by her husband, John P. Proffitt Sr., 85. Clary said the Proffitts were returning home from Chase City shortly after 1p.m., driving south on Route 92 when the accident occurred.
Clary said Proffitt crossed westbound traffic on U.S. 58 and then pulled into the median. He then drove out into the eastbound lane. The car was struck broadside by a Dodge Magum driven by Dona L. Higgins of Galax. The trooper said there was no braking time and Higgins was not exceeding the speed limit.
No charges were filed.
