According to the Roanoke Times, Zachary David Burns, 23, died after being taken to a hospital. Burns was northbound on the interstate past Abingdon about 8:35am when his 2005 Jeep Wrangler left the road and headed into a median ditch, Virginia State Police Sgt. Daniel Price said. Burns was the only occupant in the vehicle and was wearing a seat belt. The weather was fair, and there were no skid marks on the highway that would suggest sudden acceleration or braking.
Burns was a 2006 graduate of Roanoke Catholic School. He attended West Virginia University in Morgantown, W. Va.
