As reported by the Lynchburg, News & Advance on-line site, State Trooper A. T. Covey said the wreck happened around 3:40pm, when the driver of a Toyota Camry, a 16 year old male relative of Kirstin Ellis, apparently fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle ran off the right side of the road just more than a mile from intersection of Va. 6 and Adial road and struck a sign and a tree before overturning. Ellis is remembered as "always smiling" by her teachers. Both the driver and Ellis were wearing seatbelts, the driver suffered minor injuries but was not hospitalized. The speed limit in that area is 55 miles per hour and speed is not believed to have been a factor, nor are drugs, alcohol or a medical condition.
