After the death of 18-year-old Allison Buck on Aug. 25 on Rt. 53, emotions surrounding the safety of teen driving have been high in the county. But 19-year-old Kayla Shinaberry was doing everything right – using her turn signal, waiting patiently for passing cars to go before turning into her driveway – when an oncoming car hit her.
She was on her way home to 252 Haden Martin Road from a routine errand to the post office on Tuesday morning (Aug. 30) when the unidentified driver sped away, leaving her and her family to literally pick up the pieces.
