    Steve Alvin Dillon, 50, was struck when he walked from the Blackwater Wayside on U.S. 220 into the path of a southbound 2007 Freightliner box truck, according to state police. The truck was being driven by Earl Eugene Schaeffer, 46, of Roanoke. "Mr. Schaeffer did everything he could to avoid hitting Mr. Dillon," said Trooper Whitaker. Dillon was transported to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
