A teenage boy was killed in a boating collision on the James River in Virginia.
The accident occurred at approximately 10:00 AM on Sunday morning, October 17, 2010 when two boats, a Sea Tow vessel and a 19-foot fishing boat collided about 50 feet north of the James River Bridge.
Thirteen-year-old Lance Brewer and his father Phillip Brewer were avid fishermen. They were enjoying a fishing trip when their boat collided with a tow boat. Phillip Brewer and the pilot of the tow vessel were thrown by the impact and landed in the water. Both men were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center by ambulance where they were treated for minor injuries. Lance Brewer died on impact. He was taken to a local hospital where he was officially pronounced dead.
The fatal James River boating accident is still under investigation. Coast Guard investigators have not yet determined who is at fault and what may have caused the two water vessels to collide.
Norfolk personal injury attorney Lawrence Land offers his condolences to the Brewer Family.
