Ivanhoe, Virginia| Fatal Crash

An Ivanhoe man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle, head-on collision on Ivanhoe Road, state police said.

According to Trooper C.O. Brown, 58-year-old Richard H. Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene of the approximately 11 a.m. crash near the intersection of Virginia 605.

Driving a 2011 Suzuki SX4, Jefferson was headed north on Ivanhoe Road when his vehicle was struck by a 2000 Ford Excursion driven by 64-year-old James Douglas Underwood, Brown said.

Underwood was taken by ambulance to Wythe County Community Hospital and then airlifted to a Roanoke hospital.

Both men were wearing seatbelts, and the crash remains under investigation, the officer said.
