A thirty-five-year old man is dead after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver while talking on a cell phone beside his disabled car.
The Hopewell, VA car accident occurred about 1 a.m. on Saturday, November 7 on I-295 north near the Airport Drive exit. Linwood F. Miles Jr. was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Impala that became disabled. He and his passenger pulled off onto the right shoulder of 295. Miles stepped outside the vehicle to make a cellphone call. He was standing in the right lane when he was hit by a Mercury Villager van. The driver of the van left the scene.
Virginia State police later arrested Brian K. Smith, 33, of Highland Springs. He is charged with felony hit-and-run and is being held without bond pending a December 8 hearing.
