Marion, Virginia | Driver Sought in I-81 Fatal Wreck

Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Conroy said Tuesday Vijay Madhavan, 40, of Vienna, was pronounced dead at Smyth County Community Hospital.

Madhavan was a passenger in a 2006 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV driven by his wife, Chitra Mohan, 40, also of Vienna. Their 4-year-old daughter was also a passenger, according to Conroy.

“All of them were transported to Smyth County ER,” Conroy said. “The daughter and driver are described as having non-life threatening injuries.” 

The SUV was “forced off the road by an unknown vehicle described as some type of work or utility pickup truck,” Conroy said. “No contact was made between the vehicles.”
Conroy said the unknown vehicle passed the SUV in the left lane then returned to the right lane, “cutting them off” and “causing the driver to run off the road to the right and overturn.”
