Moped driver Seriously Injured in Hampton, Virginia Car Crash

Posted on Oct 15, 2010

The driver of a moped sustained serious injuries after an accident in Hampton.

The Virginia motor vehicle accident occurred on October 13.  The driver of the moped was travelling west on West Mercury Boulevard.   When he approached Riverside Drive in Hampton, traffic slowed and the moped was struck from behind by a Coca-Cola van travelling in the same direction. The moped became pinned in between the Coca-Cola van and the Chevy Silverado in front of the moped.

The 21-year-old driver of the moped was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. He remains in serious condition.
The other drivers were not hurt in the crash.

Police say that the driver of the van is facing a reckless driving charge.  The accident is still under investigation.

Norfolk personal injury attorney Lawrence Land wishes the moped driver a speedy recovery.

Drivers of motorcycles and mopeds are at a serious disadvantage in car crashes because these vehicles do little to protect their drivers.  Other drivers must watch for motorcycles and mopeds and allow plenty of following distance.  To learn more about Virginia motorcycle crashes and moped accidents, click here.
