Nassawadox, Va. | Labor Day Fatal Accident

A Nassawadox woman died in an accident Monday. Tayanna Brown, 20 of Brickhouse Drive in Nassawadox died in an accident at noon Monday when the car she was driving ran off the road and struck a parked vehicle. Brown was wearing her seat belt and alcohol was not a factor.

The accident temporarily blocked all lanes in both directions. Traffic was released at 2 pm. According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police, Brown was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital where she passed away at 1:20 PM Monday. Virginia State Trooper Renas was the investigating officer.

Virginia State Police say 14 people were killed in 11 crashes over the long Labor Day weekend.

The preliminary numbers represent a slight increase from the previous two years, when 13 deaths were recorded each holiday weekend.

Three separate crashes involved double fatalities. They occurred in Fairfax, Fauquier and Lancaster counties. Two of the highway deaths involved motorcycle operators.

State police were out in force over the holiday weekend. They arrested 110 impaired drivers and cited 7,415 speeders and 2,164 reckless drivers.
