A Scott County man was killed Wednesday (Aug. 10) afternoon in a two-vehicle crash. At 1:05 p.m., Virginia State Police Sr. Trooper J.C. Lawson was called to the scene in the northbound lanes of Route 23 at the 14 mile marker in Scott County.
A tractor was in the right northbound lane of Route 23 mowing the grass in the right shoulder when it was struck in the side by a northbound tractor-trailer. The impact of the crash split the tractor in half. The driver of the tractor was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The tractor’s operator was Gary P. Meade, 46, of Nickelsville.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Charlie E. Browning Jr., 69, of Castlewood, was not injured in the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time and is under review by the local officials. Charges are pending.
Signs were posted to warn northbound motorists that mowing was taking place along the right-of-ways of Route 23.
