BMW and Volkswagen have both issued recalls on models of vehicles due to defects that could cause fires, according to the Kansas City news website.  For BMW, the 1 Series luxury car with model years 2008 to 2011 has been recalled due to a defect in the front-seat safety-belt retractors that could cause them to ignite, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).  Volkswagen has recalled 15,902 Routan minivans due to the potential of rear-door latches short-circuiting and catching fire.
