Bryan's friends said he played soccer and high speed sports since childhood.
-Miller and childhood friend Shane Carlisle, 19, had planned to ride their motorcycles on Sunday, but decided to wait until Monday because streets were wet from weekend rain, Carlisle said. They'd been cruising on Williamson Road and Plantation Road on Monday when they turned onto Hollins Road.
Miller sped over the 25 mph speed limit, and lost control of his 2003 Honda CBR600RR sport motorcycle and crashed into an oncoming SUV, Carlisle said. Miller, who was wearing a helmet, fell under the SUV as his motorcycle skidded across the pavement.
Carlisle and another friend who heard the crash while driving on Hollins Road vainly tried to free Miller's motionless body from beneath the SUV. Carlisle shouted the nickname he had given Miller in high school -- Spradd -- but there was no reply.
"His bike went right in front of me," Carlisle said. "He was just so close. It was so quick."
Police and rescue workers were called to the scene about 7:25 p.m. Police closed the street for more than three hours while investigators reconstructed the crash.
Miller is survived by his father, George, and sister, Kelly. His mother, Lisa, died in November of a heart condition, according to family friend Mallorie Gray. She was 52.
Miller lived with his family near Preston Park and played soccer for William Fleming High School. He scored at least two goals and three assists before graduating in 2011.
He rode a BMX bike, skateboarded, and liked driving his Jeep Cherokee Sport in the mud. His jobs included pushing carts at a Food Lion grocery store and busing tables at the Coach & Four Restaurant on Williamson Road.
He bought the motorcycle after his mother died, and had been recently unemployed, Carlisle said.
"You lose your mom, and it's a hard loss," said Gray, 19. "They were very close."
Viewings are scheduled Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m at Oakey's North Chapel, 6732 Peters Creek Road. A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
