George and Linda Frye have filed a civil suit against Franklin County Sherriff Ewell Hunt, Deputy Riley Hodges, Franklin County, and a few others, according Franklin News-Post. The couple’s lawsuit stated, "their [police] intentional failure to act sooner in the face of reports from George and Linda Frye contributed to the death of Max by, at least in part, creating and allowing to continue the circumstances that led to Max's death.". The Franklin Police Department asked the Virginia State Police to conduct the investigation the situation. The Virginia State Police found that the Deputy used force to stop Max from harming his girlfriend Julie Harrison and himself. The Deputy has been on the force for twelve years and knew Max from childhood. The parents of Frye felt that the Deputy did not have the proper training to handle domestic disputes. The case will be going to federal court.
