    Southampton County, Virginia |Submerged Vehicle - Fatality

    Shortly before 2:30 a.m., Paula Irene Horner and a passenger were driving on Va. 35 in a Chrysler Pacifica when the vehicle hit standing water, ran off the right side of the road and into the swamp, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

    The passenger was able to get out of the Pacifica, but Horner was not able to escape and drowned in the submerged vehicle.

    Horner had lived in the 21000 block of Old Hickory Road in Courtland.
