Spotsylvania County, Virginia|Motorcycle Crash Fatality

Posted on Aug 31, 2011

Raymond Anthony Vessells was pronounced dead on the scene in front of 3232 Lancaster Ring Road.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Vessells was riding at a high speed about 9:15 p.m. when he lost control, ran off the road and hit the mailbox.

Vessells was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in a ditch a short distance away.

Steve Hylton, whose mailbox was struck, said he ran outside and was with the victim when he died.
"My wife actually heard it we came outside and he was lying in the ditch and the mailbox was gone and the motorcycle was lying there," Hylton said.

He and another man went to the motorcycle rider, but the victim died moments later.
A reconstruction team is investigating the accident, police said.
