On Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 2323 hours, Stations 1 (New Church) and 20 (Oak Hall) were dispatched for a reported motor vehicle accident, involving a possible hazardous materials incident at Davis Road, near New Church.
Crews arrived on location to find a tractor-trailer overturned in a ditch. Command was established by Rescue-Engine 1. The driver was not injured and it was determined that the truck was carrying 6,300 gallons of Isopropyl alcohol (80% pure alcohol). Ultimately command requested additional resources including the Eastern Shore Region Hazmat Team, Regional Hazardous Materials Officer, V.D.O.T., and Station 4 to transfer an Engine to Station 1 for standby. Also, a special request was made for alcohol resistant foam.
