Williamsburg, Va.|James City, Va. Fatal Overnight Crash

 A 13-year-old boy was killed Monday night when the minivan he was riding in overturned and collided with a dump truck in the 1300 block of John Tyler Highway.

According to Maj. Stephen Rubino of the James City Police, the accident occured at 8:05 p.m. near Chickahominy Riverfront Park.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 1997 Ford van with seven people aboard was traveling west when for some unknown reason it lost control and ran off the road. The van rolled numerous times and struck an eastbound dump truck.

The driver of the dump truck was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Among the occupants in the minivan were 3 adults and 4 children, the latter ranging in age from 2 months to 17 years.

The 13-year-old died at the scene.  The other occupants were taken to Riverside and MCV hospitals for injuries ranging from non-life threatening to critical.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.  No names have been released and thus far no charges have been filed.
