A Woodbridge man was charged with reckless driving after airport officials said he crashed a Dulles airport shuttle service van outside of Vienna Monday morning, killing one passenger.
Police say the Super Shuttle, driven by Macadolf Hoffman, careened into a left-hand jersey barrier on the Dulles Access Toll Road just east of the Trap Road exit, just outside of the Wolf Trap National Park before 7:30 a.m., according to Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokesman Rob Yingling.
One occupant in the van was ejected and died, Yingling said.
Hoffman was charged with reckless driving, Yingling said.
Officials said Hoffman stayed at the scene and was cooperative with authorities.
Two other people who were in the van at the time of the crash were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
Airport authority police are still investigating the crash.
The Dulles Access Road reopened at 10:30 a.m.
The affected stretch of roadway will be closed Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as police and officials get “detailed documentation” in wake of the fatal crash, Yingling said.
Yingling did not release any identifying information about the victim and the other passengers, other than to say they were adults.
