Media outlets report that lawyers for the estate of Jennifer Agee announced the lawsuit Wednesday at a news conference in Roanoke. The lawsuit also names Franklin County Sheriff Ewell Hunt as a defendant.
The wrongful death lawsuit filed in Roanoke Circuit Court claims former Deputy Jonathan Agee and Hunt contributed to the slaying of Jennifer Agee on Memorial Day. The estate is seeking $20 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages.
Jonathan Agee is charged with fatally shooting his ex-wife at a Roanoke convenience store on May 30. He’s also accused of shooting and wounding state police Sgt. Matthew Brannock in Montgomery County while attempting to flee.
