An out-of-state truck driver was killed on Tuesday after he ran through the guardrails on southbound Interstate 77 and went over an embankment at the New River Bridge.
According to the Virginia State Police, the driver, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected in the 8:30 a.m. single-vehicle crash that occurred during a downpour. Police believe weather may have played a part in the wreck, which remains under investigation.
Police were waiting to identify the driver’s next of kin before releasing his name.
