Water Slide Death at Kansas Park

A water slide death occurred at Schlitterbahn Waterpark, in Kansas City, on the “Verruckt” ride. The son of Kansas state Republican Scott Schwab, Caleb Thomas Schwab, died Sunday, August 7, 2016. He died while due to an injuries sustained while riding “Verruckt.” Caleb Schwab, age 10, died from a neck injury while riding the world’s tallest water slide in Kansas City. Emergency Rescue found Caleb, unresponsive, in a pool at the end of the water park slide. Due to the tragic accident, the park has been closed while the amusement park accident is investigated.

The water slide requires two to three riders to be on one raft with a total weight between 400 and 500 pounds. The slide drops 168 feet from its highest point, with the raft sliding down. Then, the raft is pushed back up to another very high drop. There were two other unrelated riders in the raft behind Caleb. The women in the raft behind Caleb were treated for minor facial injuries. Some of the people who were on the slide that day said the harnesses were not working. One woman who rode the slide many times that day said that the harness did not work at any time.
