Jose Fernandez Dies In Boating Accident
Jose Fernandez has died in a boating accident. Fernandez, who played major league baseball for the Miami Marlins, was killed in a tragic boat crash on the morning of Sunday, September 25, 2016. In 2008, Fernandez escaped from Cuba and has the reputation of a huge standout pitcher in American baseball. In a 32 foot boat owned by a friend, Fernandez crashed, with two other people into a jetty off Miami Beach. As a result, all three occupants perished in the fatal boating accident. In honor of Fernandez, the Marlins game on Sunday was cancelled. In addition, many other baseball teams expressed their condolences to the Marlins.
After sever impact with the jetty, the destroyed boat sat overturned in the water for a few hours. Some of the crash debris was spread around the rocks. The nose of the boat pointed up towards the sky. Upon investigation of the scene, two bodies were found under the boat. Another body was found on the jetty. Rescue workers removed the bodies which were draped. The identities of the other two victims will not be release until the families have been notified. Eventually, remains of the boat were towed away.
The Coast Guard said that it appears that speed was a factor. Based on impact, reports state that the boat hit the jetty going full speed. In addition, none of the victims were wearing a life jacket. The Coast Guard is familiar with this boat and it knows the area. This specific boat was stopped before for safety inspections.
