Drunk Driving Accident Fatality? Call Your Norfolk Accident Lawyer

Another suspected drunk driver has claimed the life of a young woman in Norfolk on Sunday, April 24. This is the type of drunk driving accident case that your Norfolk accident lawyer, Attorney Land has experience in pursuing. According to local news sources, Thomas Walters was operating an SUV on East Princess Road when he rear-ended a minivan occupied by three passengers and stopped at a red light. The minivan was propelled into the car ahead of it by the impact. Walters was charged by the officers with driving under the influence and refusal to submit to a blood sample.

All three occupants of the minivan were injured and transported to the hospital, including the young 23 year old woman, Nancy Kelly of Maryland. She was seated in the front seat of the minivan and later died at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Kelly’s mother said that her daughter was an Eastern Virginia Medical Student and a graduate of Virginia Wesleyan College and had a very bright future ahead of her. She said Kelly was kind, loving and brilliant and never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was just completing her first year of medical school.

The driver and the third passenger in the minivan were both treated for their injuries and released while Walters is being held in the Norfolk city jail. Once the police have completed their investigation, they will turn their results over to the Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office.

Why do people continue to drive when they have been drinking? This is such a preventable accident and a preventable death. With taxis and Uber and Lyft, there is no justification for driving drunk. It is so simple to use these ride sharing services, so it makes no sense to get behind the wheel of a car when drunk.
