A one car accidental death in James City County happened on Tuesday, July 19, 2016, on Interstate 64 West in James City County. The car accident took place at 3:52 p.m. near Croaker at mile marker 331 when the car hit a tree and burst into flames.
The lanes of 1-64 Westbound were closed until 8:15 p.m. Numerous strangers worked together to try to assist and save the victim before the firefighters got there. 36-year-old Heather Lee Edwards of West Point, Virginia, lost control of the vehicle and hit an embankment and smashed into a tree. He car was engulfed in flames and she was unable to escape. She died at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle. Her family was notified.
