Drunken Driver Killed Child in Detroit

Unfortunately, a drunk driving accident resulted in a killed child in Detroit. Victoria Mack was a passenger in the third row of a stopped minivan in Michigan on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 when the minivan was rammed from behind by a drunk driver.  Firefighters had to cut through the mangled minivan to extract 12 year old Victoria. Victoria was transported to the hospital by helicopter but died a few days later. The four other passengers in the vehicle survived.

The drunk driver responsible for Victoria’ death, the killed child, was Charles Cahill Jr.. Mr. Cahilll had over 12 convictions for drinking and driving and several license suspensions over the past 31 years. Cahill remains in jail and is charged with second degree murder which could land him life in prison. The question remains, “How could someone without a valid driver’s license and numerous convictions, still be out there on the road?” He has been involved in 7 traffic accidents, with two accidents happening on the same day.

It is believed that ignition interlocks, which prevent drunk drivers from driving, could reduce the amount of drunk driving accidents in Michigan and could have stopped Cahill from driving on the day his recklessness resulted in a killed child.
