A traffic injury, a pedestrian death occurred on U.S. Route 13 of the Virginia Eastern Shore. On Monday, May 9, a 28 year old man was killed on the Eastern Shore around 9:15 PM. This accident is this the fifth traffic related death on the Eastern Shore this year. The accident that caused the pedestrian death happened oat the corner of Lankford Highway and Accomac Road.

Three pedestrians were trying to cross Lankford Highway in an area that was not lit or visible. During the crossing, two of them were hit by Charles M. Gale, 63 from Berlin, Maryland who was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima.

One of the men, Demarcus Johnson of Adams Road in Greenbush was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Also, Kentrell Savage, 25, of Wharton Circle in Greenbush, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Nightingale Helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

For three hours, while crash reconstruction efforts were underway, all northbound lanes of Lankford Highway were closed. The investigation is still ongoing and speed and alcohol were not factors in this pedestrian death. The driver of the vehicle, Charles M. Gale, received minor injuries and no charges were filed against him.

The third pedestrian was unharmed, so he was not named since he is not considered part of the accident. Several units responded to the accident scene including Parksley, Bloxom, Onley and Tasley Units.
