Portsmouth Woman Charged With Murder In Crash
A woman was charged with murder due to her responsibility in a crash that killed two young girls. The woman, Takiera Lewis-White, was convicted of felony murder in a Portsmouth accident where two little girls were killed. Takiera Lewis-White was also convicted of child neglect resulting from a police chase that ended in the fatal crash.
The driver, Lewis-White, 21 years old, was charged with murder and eight criminal counts following a police chase. She was charged with two counts of felony homicide and driving on a suspended license. Also, she was charged with three counts of child abuse, one count of reckless driving and one count of eluding police. All the charges relate to a failed traffic stop for speeding on Virginia Interstate 264. A state trooper was unable to stop her and she exited the highway. She travelled at speeds more than 90 mph causing her SUV to roll over and land in some trees.
Two Killed In Portsmouth Accident – Driver Charged With Murder
Eight year old, Destiny Wilson, and five year old, Shawnta Wilson, were passengers in the car. They were killed in the fatal traffic accident. Lewis-White’s 1 year old son was also a passenger in the car. Although the 1 year old sustained injuries, he survived. The jury took 40 minutes to convict Takiera Lewis-White. She was charged with murder with the eight criminal counts for the accident that took the lives of the two young sisters.
Suffolk Commonwealth’s attorney prosecuted the case after a judge decided that Portsmouth Commonwealth Attorney’s office had a conflict of interest. These two young sisters never had a choice about who they rode with in the SUV. Two innocent lives were lost in the fatal accident. Two innocent lives were lost through no fault of their own.
