Death Accident Lawyer in Isle of Wight County

A possible candidate for a death accident lawyer in the Eastern Shore area of Virginia, a 86 year old woman died on Thursday, May 19, in Isle of Wight County when a tractor-trailer slammed into the back of the car where she was a passenger.

Annie Mae Eley, of the 1000 block of Centerbrooke Lane in Suffolk, sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center but they were unable to save her. Four other people were transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center but are expected to recover.

The accident happened at 8 a.m. at the intersection of Route 32 or Carollton Boulevard and Route 17, Brewers Neck Boulevard. Three cars were stopped at a light heading north on Route 32 – a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, a 2006 Pontiac and a 2004 Toyota Camry. Eley was a passenger in the backseat of the 2006 Pontiac and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the traffic accident.

Ronnie Butner, of North Carolina, was driving a 2006 Peterbuilt tractor-trailer heading north when he failed to stop and hit the Pontiac from behind causing the Pontiac to slam into the other vehicles. Butner received a reckless driving charge and more charges may follow once the case is reviewed by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation of the accident scene continued for more than three hours after the accident.

The Pontiac was the vehicle that sustained the more damage. The front, rear and passenger side all had major damage. The other vehicle, the Jeep had damage on the front driver’s side. The Toyota Camry incurred major rear end damage. This could be, possibly, another case of distracted driving, as the truck driver failed to stop. His failure to stop resulted in the death of an elderly woman.
