Ferris Wheel Accident Injures Three

A ferris wheel accident injured three girls in Greenville, Tennessee when they fell out of the ride at a county fair. The ferris wheel accident happened around 6:15 p.m., Monday, August 8, 2016, at the Greene County Fair. According to reports, a basket turned over on a ride, spilling the basket occupants out. This caused them to fall 35 to 45 feet to the ground. The three girls injured were transported to the Johnson City Medical Center, two by helicopter, and one by ambulance. All three girls injured were awake and alert.

A witness to the ferris wheel accident reported that the basket that the girls were riding in seemed to get stuck as the wheel was going up. He said it was like water being poured from a glass, as the girls spilled out of the basket. As they fell, they hit and bounced off the metal bridging of the ride, and finally landed on the ground. When people on the ground started to scream at the ride operators, they finally shut down the park ride.

As a result of the ferris wheel accident, all the rides on the fairgrounds that were operated by Family Attractions Amusement Company were closed. The amusement ride attractions will remain closed until a third party inspector finds them safe. All other events at the fair will continue.
